Performance Task:

Cancer has many effects on those who are inflicted with the disease. The skin of a cancer patient is often marred, either directly from the disease or as a result of chemotherapy, a common treatment. A cosmetologist is often employed to improve the skin condition of cancer victims. Your task is to assume you are a cosmetologist assigned to a patient whose skin is damaged from the disease. You are to provide a complete makeover for the patient. Write a report giving a description of factors you need to consider, including an understanding of chemical compositions, the interpersonal skills needed to work with the patient, the plan for improving the skin condition, and techniques you would use to help the patient improve his/her quality of life.

Note to the teacher: The student may use photograph to demonstrate the effects of the treatment, showing pictures of "before" and "after."
