You are being trained for a job as a data analyst.  As part of your training, you are asked to analyze samples of USA Today data cards.

  1. Data cards contain a USA Today Snapshot that graphically represents data.  On each data card are 4 math-related questions about the graphic. Students will select 5 already completed data cards and answer the questions.

  2. As a class, discuss what types of questions were asked on each data card.  (i.e. Did graphs represent information realistically?)

  3. Each student will create his/her own data card:

  1. Each student needs a 5 x 7 index card.

  2. Each student will select an USA Snapshot, cut it out, and glue it onto the front left side of the index card.  (Teacher will provide  a variety of USA Today newspapers.)

  3. Each student will write 4 math-related questions pertaining to the Snapshot on the front of the index card to the right of the Snapshot.

  4. Each student will write the correct answers to his./her questions on the back of the card.

  5. Each student will display his/her data card and questions on the classroom bulletin board.
