Communication:  Communicate by reading, discussing, writing about, and visually displaying technological and scientific concepts.

 

 

Performance Task:

 

 

Students will interview three members of their family in their parents' or grandparents' generation.  During each interview students will discuss what changes in science or technology have had the greatest direct influence on each individual's life.  Students will then research these changes and create an exciting and scientifically accurate presentation for the class.

 

 

Knowledge / Skills:

 

 

Understand the impact upon society and the environment of scientific and technological discoveries and the contributions of scientists.  Understand how society may accept or reject scientific discoveries based upon need or refusal to change.  116

Prepare and deliver individual speeches by gathering information, rehearsing, making eye contact, speaking loudly enough, delivering information in a well-organized fashion, and appealing to the needs of the target audience.  ELA.10

Gather information such as data, facts, ideas, concepts, and generalizations from oral sources.  ELA.51

A. Content

  • 4 POINTS:  Full of relevant information, includes details, contains background information.

  • 3 POINTS:  Somewhat relevant information, some details, some background information

  • 2 POINTS:  Irrelevant information, very little detail, little background.

  • 1 POINT:  No information, no details, no background information.

B. Delivery of Presentation

  • 4 POINTS:  Understandable, speaking is audible and clear, presentation is well prepared and shows evidence of rehearsal, eye contact, stimulates audience interest and keeps attention of audience.  

  • 3 POINTS:  Most is understandable, partial clarity, could be more carefully prepared, some eye contact,  moderately interesting.

  • 2 POINTS:  Confusing, speaking is unclear, unprepared and lost, not very interesting.

  • 1  POINT:   No information presented

C. Creativity

  • 4 POINTS:  Original and unique presentation, makes topic interesting, uses descriptive visual aids.

  • 3 POINTS:  Presentation has some originality and uniqueness, not a lot of thought put into presentation.

  • 2 POINTS:  Not much originality and uniqueness in presentation.

  • I POINT:   Not interesting, no originality.

D. Organization

  • 4 POINTS:  Very organized, overall impression is good.

  • 3 POINTS:  Somewhat organized, overall impression is O.K.

  • 2 POINTS:  Very little organization.

  • 1  POINT:   Not organized, overall impression is bad.
