Performance Task:

 

 

Students will use various resources to plan for a spring break trip to an out of state concert.  They will plan for a 5-day trip out of state to attend a concert and at least two other attractions along the way.  A group of four will rent a car, travel through three major cities on the way to a destination, and stay in a hotel for four nights.

Consulting maps, the Internet, and other resources in the community, students determine the best route, daily agenda and total cost and mileage of the trip, staying within the budget assigned by the teacher.

 

 

Knowledge / Skills:

 

 

Perform operations with signed (positive and negative) numbers, including decimals, ratios, percents, and fractions.   M.1

Gather information from a variety of sources, including electronic sources, and summarize, analyze, and evaluate its use for a report.  ELA.3

Prepare and deliver individual speeches by gathering information, rehearsing, making eye contact, speaking loudly enough, delivering information in a well-organized fashion, and appealing to the needs of the target audience.  ELA.10

 

 

Rubric:

 

 

3 POINTS:  The following criteria is presented in a concise, organized and clearly illustrated written and oral report. It includes: route followed, three major stops, mileage to each checkpoint and total mileage, estimated cost of gasoline, car rental, 4 nights stay in a hotel, all meals, concert, admission to two other attractions, and allowance for spending money.  Amount and type of clothing packed is explained.  The student accurately calculates all costs, remains within budget guidelines and uses at least one map and one chart.

 

 

2 POINTS:  The student completes all components, and care has been given to accurately gather, interpret, and represent the information.  At least 9 out of 12 criteria are met and information is presented in a clear format using at least one map and one chart.

 

 

1   POINT:  The student has not gathered all required information, has not accurately calculated the total cost, or has not completed all components of the project.  Information has been presented in a disorganized fashion that may be hard to follow.
