Performance Task:

Your class is being rewarded with a pizza party.  Every student in the class is asked to tell what toppings they want on their pizza as well as what toppings they absolutely do not want. Topping choices are extra cheese, mushrooms, peppers, pepperoni, and anchovies.

Working in groups of three with the information from the students, decide how many pizzas and what sizes to order so that everyone in the class has an equal portion.  Decide what toppings to order so that almost everyone gets the toppings of their choice and nobody has toppings they hate. Calculate the total cost of your order.  Determine how much each student will have to contribute to the total cost of the pizza.

Share your results with other members of the class and decide which group made the most equitable calculations.

Order the pizzas and enjoy!

4 POINTS:  Students ordered appropriately, cut the pizza equitably and calculated costs accurately.

3 POINTS:  Everyone in the class got an equal share of pizza, but more than a few had toppings not of their choice.  Costs were calculated accurately.

2 POINTS:  Everyone in class got an equal share of pizza, but a quarter of the students got toppings not of their choice.  Costs were calculated accurately, but costs to individual students were determined to be costly.

1   POINT:  The pizzas ordered could not be distributed equitably, almost half of the students got toppings not of their choice, and the costs were exorbitant.
