Performance Task:

In this task you are to predict what physical and
chemical changes occur when certain substances are mixed. You will then
actually mix the substances, observe what happens, and compare the actual
happening to your prediction.
Predict the changes, if any, that you think will occur when calcium
chloride and baking soda are mixed. Next, predict the changes that will
occur when water is added to this mixture. Write down your predictions.
Using plastic spoons, mix one or two spoonfuls of calcium chloride and
baking soda in a small plastic bag. Observe and record what happens. Next,
carefully add a small amount of water into your mixture of calcium chloride
and baking soda. Observe and record what happens. Draw conclusions based
upon your observations.
