ICLE Standards:

Physical Science: Develop an understanding of magnetism.

Science and Technology: Develop abilities of technological design. Develop an understanding about science and technology.

Performance Task:

You know that magnets can be used to move some things without being touched. Your task in this activity is to use your knowledge of magnets and magnetism to design and make a toy, game, or tool that uses magnets. You may use any common materials available to you. Some examples of common materials are paper, cardboard, wood, plastic, metal, etc. Be creative and make your object appealing. After you have made your object, write a few sentences describing your object and how magnets were used. Discuss your design and how your object works.

Knowledge / Skills:

Plan and apply real or hypothetical models and constructions to facilitate investigation and learning and the solution to practical problems.  (s115)

Understand the concepts of magnetic forces and magnetic fields.  (s74)

Use expository writing skills in subjects other than English language arts.  (ela58)

Rubric:
