Performance Task:

 

 

After providing his/her own pumpkin, each student will create a scale drawing of a design selected from several provided by the teacher. Each student will increase or decrease the design at 1/2, 1/4, 1/3, 3/4, 2/3 scales to place on his/her pumpkin. Students must determine which scale is appropriate for their pumpkins.
Once the design is made, a copy must be made. The "copy" is taped onto the pumpkin. Using carving tools, each will carve the face or design.

Plan and apply real or hypothetical models and constructions to facilitate investigation and learning and the solution to practical problems. 115

Use the technique of dimensional analysis to convert units of measure (e.g., convert km/hr to m/min). Understand and use various techniques for estimating, making and converting measure; and using these to perform dimensional analysis. M.33

 

 

 

Rubric:

 

 

4 POINTS: Student independently completes the scale drawing. The drawing is neat and accurate.

 

 

3 POINTS: Student needs some assistance to complete the scale drawing. The drawing contains minor errors in measurement and neatness.

 

 

2 POINTS: Student needs considerable assistance to complete the scale drawing. The drawing is not neat and accurate.

 

 

1 POINT: Student does not complete the scale drawing. Little, if any understanding of scale drawing is demonstrated.
