We have been studying plants and how they grow.
Your task is to plan a flower garden to be planted in front of the school. Using the information given in the chart, you are to
decide which flowers are best suited for our climate and soil. Space needed for the chosen flowers and
their heights should be considered. Our garden is to have a length of 8 feet and a width of 24 feet. Choose at
least three, but no more than five, different flowers for the garden.
Decide how many plants of each kind you
will plant. In your science journal, list the flowers you have chosen and explain why you think these
are good choices. Tell how many of each kind you will plant and explain why you chose that number. On
a full sheet of paper, draw a picture (in color) that illustrates how your plants are to be arranged in
the flower bed. Include distances apart and the heights of the flowers. Make your drawing to scale.
Note to the teacher: As an additional task, you may want to have the
students visit a local plant nursery where they could get more information on the care of plants, such as sunlight required, amount of
water needed, etc. They could also price the plants, extending into a money activity.
