Performance Task:

 

 

This task will require you to use scientific inquiry to ascertain the relationship between vibration, pitch, and frequency. Take several tuning forks and strike them with a mallet to make sound. Compare the pitch of the various tuning forks. Then strike the forks and hold them to a variety of objects in the room to let the sound travel through the material. Keep a record of your observations. After about 30 minutes of activity, determine what you have learned about vibration, pitch and frequency and how they are related to the materials through which the sound traveled. Explain in writing the results of your inquiry.
