ICLE Standards:

Analyze a task to determine its critical elements.

Graph and construct to correct scale ratios.

Performance Task:

You are going to build a model of your "dream tree house." The scale will be 1/4" = 1'. First use graph paper to design your floor plan. It cannot exceed 8' x 8'. Next, use the graph paper to design each side. No side can exceed 8' x 8'. Finally, construct the model from construction paper.

Knowledge / Skills:

Use the technique of dimensional analysis to convert units of measure (e.g., convert km/hr to m/min). Understand and use various techniques for estimating, making and converting measure; and using these to perform dimensional analysis. M.33

Plan and apply real or hypothetical models and constructions to facilitate investigation and learning and the solution to practical problems. ELA.115

Rubric:

4 POINTS: The graph paper drawing model and the construction paper model are accurate, to scale and conform to space limitations.

3 POINTS: The graph paper drawing and the construction paper model are accurate, no more than 1/2" deviation from scale and do not exceed space limitations.

2 POINTS: The graph paper drawing and construction paper model are slightly inaccurate, no more than 1" deviation from scale and exceed space limitations.

1 POINT: The graph paper drawing and the construction paper model are very inaccurate or have not been completed. The student has exceeded space limitation.
