Build An Electronic Habitat

Copernicus Education Gateway

Subject:

Science

Grade:

K-4

ICLE Standards:

Students will access, generate, process, and transfer information using appropriate technologies.

Performance Task:

The focus of this activity will be to develop a class multimedia presentation. Students will research information about an animal using electronic encyclopedias. They must find out where the animal lives, what it eats, how it moves, and if it lives alone or travels in a group. Using a computer drawing program, students will draw their animal and its habitat. The picture must include all the important elements for the animal to survive. Students will add electronic sounds by making their animal picture into a "button." When clicked onto by the mouse, the "button" will generate a realistic sound for the animal.  Students will visit and learn about each other's projects at the conclusion of this unit.

Knowledge / Skills:

Gather information from a variety of sources, including electronic sources, and summarize, analyze, and evaluate its use for a report.  (ela3)

Understand ecology as the study of the interactions and relationships of organisms with their living and nonliving environments (i.e., the ecosystem, communities, and populations).  (s13)

Know the survival requirements of the human population and the history and implications of population growth.  (s40)
